Motorola's Moto X flagship Android smartphone had a special
charm, which got it well by a lot of people who used it. In the years
following, Moto X (Jane 2) and Moto X style were followed, but we have not
called the new Moto X phone since 2015. In charge of Lenovo now, the company
has released its new flagship series Moto Z series, leaving the fate of X
series in captivity
Fast Forward for 2017, and Lenovo has now introduced the
Moto X4 as a new mid-range smartphone, and is quite possible for a lot of users
as a fan service. This new model tries to get the original Moto X specially
similar to its compact form factor, but with some modern forms. Rs 21,000 in
rupees or Rs. 23,000 Based on the storage version you choose, the new Moto X4
is well positioned, because the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) (review) is the only
smartphone that comes to mind at this price. Let's see that the Moto X4 is as
good as it sounds.
Building Moto X4 Design and Quality
Lenovo has done a wonderful job with the design of the Moto
X4. The combination of an outer aluminum frame and behind the glass is visible
and feels extremely premium, and the overall size and size makes it easy to
catch in. It lacks the distinctive winding back of the last Moto X model, but
still it is comfortable. However, it is on the heavy side to ensure that 163
grams, which you will feel when it's in your pocket. The disadvantage behind
the glass is that it attracts fingerprints very easily and makes the phone
really slippery. When the phone is placed with the slightest desire on the
surfaces, then this sliding will stop.
All buttons are kept on the right, but they are quite small
and it is difficult to distinguish between them by touch. It has slightly
different texture in the power button but due to its small size, and it is not
easy to exclude the double sim tray is placed at the top but it is hybrid
variety so that you can decide between a second SIM and a micro SD card. . At
the bottom of the phone, we have a USB Type-C port and headphone socket, but
there is no speaker grill because the Moto X4 uses its earpiece as a
loudspeaker.
Whenever it comes to a longer display, Lenovo has not joined
the flock. Although this may be a serious issue for some, the regular 16: 9
screen is still very good. Honestly, we did not really remember a tall one, it
still has relatively thin boundaries on the sides, and people at the top Google
Pixels are still thinner than the 2 (review). 5.2 inch IPS display has great
brightness and thanks to saturated colors, produces a vivid image. There is
Gorilla Glass for safety, and Full-HD resolution is acceptable at this price
point. Oleophobic coating also does a good job of staining-displayed during
everyday use.

The camera collision on the back turns out to be quite a
bit, but thankfully we did not see any malfunction during our review period.
There is no support for Moto Modes because it is reserved for Z series. Lenovo
has placed a fingerprint sensor in the capacitive home button, and it works
well for authentication. Navigation is controlled by on-screen buttons, but you
can switch to run through the OS using the Home button using the gestures on
the fingerprint reader. You can do the usual functions of opening the app
switcher, going back, and locking the screen with gestures only. This is useful
because you can add on-screen buttons, which can give you a bit more screen
real estate In the box, Lenovo ships Moto X4 with a charger, data cable, sim
eject tool, instructions and headset
Moto X4 specifications and software
In terms of specifications, the Moto X4 is very well
equipped to handle most apps. This Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 uses the mobile
platform, which is usually similar to the 626 and 625 SOC found in this
segment. There are eight ARM Cortex-A53 CPU core in this chip, with maximum
clock speed of 2.2 GHz, so the benchmark number is the same. In Anantu, we got
67,361 points and 23 FPS in Gfxbench. Snapdragon 630 has some improvements such
as the fast X12 LTE modem which supports the peak download speeds of 600 Mbps
(vs. 300 Mbps) and for extra features such as the APTX codec for high-quality
audio streaming and Quick Charge 4.0. Lenovo has sent us a high end version of
the Moto X4, which has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage, but if you want to save
some money, you can opt for the 3 GB Plus 32GB combo.
4G works on both SIM slots (but only in one time) and VoLTE
is also supported. You also get FM radio, NFC, USB-OTG, Bluetooth 5, and
dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 AC. The sensor includes a gyroscope and compass with
normal proximity sensor, accelerometer and magnetometer. The phone also has
appropriate water resistance with IP 68 authentication.
At the international level, the Moto X4 ship with Alexa
Virtual Assistant of Amazon, but in India, it's missing. This is a bit weird
because it is believed that the Echo Speakers of Amoson are now officially
available, most of which the skills of Alexa do just fine. However, at launch,
Lenovo told Gadgets 360 that this feature will only be available once, when the
Moto Alexa app will be released to Amazon alone. In the US, the Moto X4 is also
sold through Verizon as part of Google's Android One program.
In India, the Moto X4 ships with the near-stock version of
Android 7.1.1, which updates under a planned Oreo road. Everything is kept very
close to the stock here, to save a suit of custom icon sets and moto apps and
gestures. There is also a group of pre-installed apps, including Outlook and
LinkedIn, which can not be uninstalled freely.
Moto App: We have seen anything else on other existing Moto
Fomes, such as for flashlight and camera activation, as well as to see a
glimpse of your information, to provide equally similar features to wake up
battery level and time. Screen Up Lenovo has added a nightly display feature,
which is a blue light filter. You can schedule it to kick in a particular time
period but there is no way to adjust the intensity, if you want a strong effect
Moto Voice lets you launch the app using the phrase 'show me' and calendar
appointments Lets check, and it works well, a list of supported commands is
provided. This feature works as advertised, even if the screen is turned off.
There is also a feature called 'Voice Security' which is specially to detect
your voice and allows the command when the phone is locked, but we could not
get the facility to work.
There is a new addition Moto key, which lets you use the
phone's fingerprint sensor for authentication when logging in to Windows PC or
require a password on websites. To work for this, you will need a Moto key for
Windows (sorry, not Mac support), which will establish a connection between
your PC and Bluetooth on the phone. Through the setup process, you also have
the option to install the Moto Key Browser Extension (only Internet Explorer
and Chrome are now supported) After configuring everything, the Moto key
extension will override your browser's default AutoShare function. Whenever you
need to save your credentials for a website, then your fingerprint is required.
After saving, you will see the Moto Key symbol in the password area and almost
immediately, get a hint on your phone to authenticate using your fingerprint,
it looks like a complex process, but it's set up once To do very comfortable
works. This also works for the widows to enter.
The Moto X4 Tempo is the first phone to introduce the
multi-speaker bluetooth solution. Like Samsung's implementation in the S8
series, the Moto X4 has a feature called the wireless sound system in the
settings app, so that you can connect up to four Bluetooth devices at the same
time. These can be a mix of speaker and headset. Once connected, you can adjust
the amount of each speaker or headset individually through your phone. You also
have the option for stereo configuration (left and right audio channel
separation) but for this to work properly, you have to use the calibration
feature in the app, otherwise the effect is not very good. We run it on the
host of different speakers and it works very well. Remember that when this
feature is turned on, you will be disconnected from your other Bluetooth device
because tempo audio profile (TAP) overrides all other connections. gives
Moto X4 display, camera, and battery life
Thanks to stock Android, normal performance is smooth
without any hiccups 4G welcome is good and earpiece is also quite audible for
calls in noise environments. The compact size of this phone is very good, but
the use of one-hand on the back from slippery becomes a bit tricky. To make
life easier, X4 has a gesture that displays one of the lower corners of the
screen. We liked that the phone does not heat too much, even gaming. The app
performance is good and during the multitasking we did not have to face any time.
Heavy titles like Asphalt 8 and Dirt Extreme were run smoothly.
The touch response of the display is very good and we like
the vivacity of the screen, which is great for watching video content. The
speaker gets the sound of both the voice and the media files quite well, but of
course, we miss a reasonable stereo effect. The bundle headset is in-ear
variety and it really feels good. Tonal signature is quite balanced and silicon
ear tips provide good separation from ambient noise. You can enable the 'Talk to
Me' feature in Moto Voice, which announces incoming calls and text when you
have a headset connected. You can also answer or reject calls by voice command
alone.
Another big feature of the Moto X4 is its dual camera setup,
it has a 12 megapixel primary camera with F-0.0 aperture and PDAF, and an
8-megapixel secondary camera, which is 120 degree area-wide for wide angle
shots is. You can switch between sensors at any time with a dedicated button in
the viewfinder. The main sensor with considerable good detail for the landscape
and macro shots is quick to focus during the day. We saw that, some time, under
the bright sunlight, the camera pervades the scenes, so you will need to dial
the exposure manually using the ring around the Focus Reticulate. The quality
of the low-light image from the main sensor is also a little noisy.

Wide-angle shots allow you to capture more views, but it is
only useful for Landscape shots because it is impossible to get a clear close
up. The quality of the images is slightly lower when taken with the secondary
sensor in front of the main one. This is most evident in low-light shots.
Equally distortion is also indispensable with wide-angle lenses Auto HDR is
present, but processing is not very fast. It works well in daylight, but in low
light, it is quite dull, when it is impossible to get a clear shot when you
move on about it.
You can switch between the sensors for video recording but
before you press the record button you have to do this, the video resolution
increases to 4K but there is no stability, so you often end up with unstable
footage with slight changes. Are there. Continuous autofocus is quite slow
here. Other shooting modes include 1080p 60fps and 120fps slow-speed 720p in
low light video shot is a bit noisy
Moto X4 has a bottle mode but its effect is not very good
with human subjects. Even after many attempts, even the parts of the head and
ears of our subjects were blurred, which indicates that the camera is not very
good with the detection of the edge. You can adjust the level of blur before
and after taking the shots, but the whole process looks very clacky. Spot color
is a fun shooting mode and also a professional mode, the front 16-megapixel
camera takes undisputed detailed sleeves under good lighting, and there is a
front-firing LED flash to help you at night. We've found that the front flash
spoils white balance of shots for the longest time, so you're not using it
until you should not do it at all.
The Moto X4 has a feature called Smart Camera, which
attempts to identify an object or milestone in the viewfinder. An icon pops up
in the viewfinder, and when it taps, a temporary snapshot of the app object or
place captures in focus and tries to recognize it. The process takes a while,
during which you can not use the camera It works very well for ordinary
objects, but the work of the sites was not possible, possibly because we were
not around any remarkable people
It also claims to be able to read addresses and phone
numbers, but it's more of a hit or miss. This feature is somewhat like the
Google lens, but it is very slow and it is not accurate Lenovo mentions other
beta feats
Selective black and white on your website and as background
replacement, which are not currently present.
Battery life is good because we have been able to make heavy
use of the day with 3000 mAh battery. With gaming, many photos and video capturing,
web browsing, some calls and some GPS usage, though applications like Uber and
Google Maps have been able to run our HD test videos continuously for 11 hours
and 33 minutes. Fast charging is supported through Moto's turbo power facility.
We managed to charge 50 percent in half an hour, which is good.
